Hello everyone. Hope everyone’s Christmas passed well, & that the New Year has got off to a good start. Thought I’d let you know about our next Club meeting, just so that you can put your newly acquired 2013 diaries to good use.
The next meeting of our Club is scheduled for Thursday 14 Feb, Venue; the Fluke Room, Victoria Hall, in Victoria Road. As usual the meeting will be held 7 – 9 pm. Entry, as always, is free.
We have two speakers lined up, each a Club member, & each speaking to the Club for the first time – a great sign of our healthy growth in recent times. The two topics are on aspects of Saltaire’s history that we haven’t heard about before.
Maggie Smith (well-known locally for her work on Saltaire Festival Committee) is unearthing some truly remarkable accounts of individuals who worked in the Mill, and the title of her talk is “Exceptional Journeys to Work: (in Saltaire)”.
Colin Coates has quietly been making an extensive study of the demographics of the village as revealed by census returns, which contain a gold mine of information; the title of Colin’s talk is "Saltaire by Numbers - 1911 Census". Both talks are guaranteed to reveal really fascinating aspects of Saltaire’s wonderful history – they’re definitely talks not to be missed! Please tell your friends.
Look forward to seeing all who can make it!
Best wishes
Dave (Shaw), for Saltaire History Club
