RESISTANCE TO ROAD
SOCIETY WILL FIGHT BYPASS PLANS
Saltaire Village Society (SVS) holds its Annual General Meeting at 7.30pm on Monday, May 21st in the Glen Room of Victoria Hall. Following the well attended meeting two months ago and the encouraging response to its survey of residents' views and ideas for its future, the Society is fighting fit – and possibly just in time:
NEW BYPASS
Elaine Gilligan, Chair of SVS, said of the recent announcement of plans for a Saltaire bypass, "We need to move quickly to discuss this. While we are being told they are very much initial ideas and this is a long way off, these plans will start to blight our lives now – so we need to take action and fast." Further meetings already arranged are on Monday June 18th, to discuss what such action should be, and September 24th when local MP Philip Davies will attend to address residents' concerns.
Other business on the agenda this month includes a streamlining of the Constitution and the election of a Committee to be responsible for management and administration of SVS. Anyone wishing to be on the Committee is invited to contact the current Acting Secretary, Eddie Lawler.
