NO FEAR OF RELEGATION AFTER POINTS HAUL
Geoff Porter, Saltaire Cricket Club's Secretary, said the First XI would be in confident mood as they turned out against Farsley in their last league home match of the season, following a convincing victory over Pudsey St Lawrence, and added "The points haul will also take the pressure off any frivolous talk of relegation with Saltaire 46 points clear of the drop". The points haul in question amounted to 20 (10 for the win and 5 each for batting and bowling) as Saltaire, having acquired their highest score of the season (so far!) of 285 for 9, dismissed the Saints for 276.
Twice in the past three seasons, Saltaire have been pipped by their old rivals after giving them a challenging total to chase, so the latest encounter at Tofts Road was seen as "third time lucky" by Geoff and his colleagues. In an exciting climax, with just one over remaining, Robert Worsnop caught what looked like a six from Iain Priestley. Fawad Maqsood, who ran up 101 and whose off-spin bowling was responsible for the important wicket of Gary Fellows, was man of the match.
