I had a phone call recently from Mrs Leach in Skipton, whose daughter took her a copy of the Sentinel. Mrs Leach used to live at No.8 Victoria Road, and was kind enough to give me this information about it:

In November, 1943, the Davidsons sold the shop to her father, Lars Sture, a Norwegian. He traded as L Sture and Sons, Bakers, until August, 1950. Lars had a job away from the shop, which was run by his wife Ruth and his two sons Roland and David. They also had two daughters, Margaret and Mary, who helped their mother in the shop. Baking was done in ovens in the cellar. A dumb waiter linked all the floors from attics to cellar. (There is a story that a previous owner had used this device to take his own life.)

Businesses in Victoria Road, mentioned by Mrs Leach, which I had not heard of before  included  McCauley's Greengrocery at No.7 and Keighley's Fish and Chip Shop, presumably at No.6.
