Age UK logoThe Age UK shop in Saltaire is calling on local people to sign up as a volunteer to help raise much-needed funds to support the Charity’s work with older people.

Age UK has over 410 shops across the UK, which are supported by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers. As well as helping the Charity support older people and making a difference to the local community, volunteers can also make new friends, discover new interests and develop new skills.

Highlighting the rewards that volunteering brings, nine out of ten Age UK volunteers said that they feel they are making a difference with their work, whilst 88% said they feel part of the local community. 98% would recommend the Charity as a place to volunteer because of the positive experience they have had.

Volunteers can support the shop in a range of activities, both behind the scenes and on the shop floor, including serving customers and creating displays, managing stock donations and assisting with shop administration.

Deborah, a volunteer at the Age UK Saltaire shop, said:  “Volunteering with the Age UK shop in Saltaire is really enjoyable – it’s great to know you are making a difference and giving something back. As well doing a variety of different tasks in the shop, I meet new people every day. I have made good friends with both the shop team and people in the local community and would encourage anyone thinking of signing up to give volunteering a go.”

Age UK shops generate much-needed funds for the Charity’s work with older people, whilst encouraging everyone to recycle unwanted goods including clothing and accessories, gifts, toys, household items and shoes. The money raised by Age UK’s shops will help the Charity to support its local Age UK partners to deliver hands-on local services such as lunch clubs and home safety checks, as well as hugely important national work like its free advice line (open 365 days a year) and vital campaigning work.
