Shipley based Carers' Resource, help carers in their caring role

Are you a carer?
A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise because of frailty, illness or disability. They may even be juggling paid work with caring responsibilities at home. Carers have a tough job – it can mean unrelenting pressure, little chance to relax and a lot of worry

.The Carers’ Resource provides support for carers, no matter what their age, race, religion or needs.

A bit more about Carers' Resource and the role of the volunteer

Carers’ Resource, a Shipley-based charity has scooped a national award which recognises the ‘valuable’ role its volunteers play in supporting carers and clients.

Carers’ Resource offers tailor-made support and information to unpaid carers, the people they care for and to vulnerable members of the community.

Based in Park View Court, Shipley, (located near Asda) it provides a variety of services, a number of which are carried out with the help of trained volunteers. This has been recognised by the Investing in Volunteers Quality Standard after a thorough assessment of the charity’s volunteering division, including interviews with existing volunteers, staff, carers and clients.

We need volunteers - would you like to volunteer?

Volunteers are given the right support, guidance and information to enable them to fulfil their diverse roles.

Roles carried out by volunteers include  helping to provide social and activity groups, such as IT, crafts, trips and coffee mornings, and making weekly telephone calls to people who are carers or live alone and at risk of isolation as part of the Caring Callers service.

Volunteers also visit and support  people, over a short-term basis after being discharged from hospital, as part of the Home from Hospital service.

Jeanette Procter, Volunteer Co-ordinator, Shipley: “There are so many ways in which volunteers can become involved at Carers’ Resource – we have volunteers who come in once a week to help with office tasks, while others are out and about in the community helping at groups or visiting people in their homes.”
