Dear Friends, Greetings to All, especially to our recently signed-up new members.

Hope everyone has survived well the bleak mid-winter, and is now looking forward to Spring, and our History Club meetings in 2009.

The programme for our first meeting of 2009 gets us off to a great start, with two well-known speakers.

Principal of Shipley College Jean McAllister recently announced her pending retirement, and will be speaking on "Reflections of a Principal", in which she will look back on her long association with education in Saltaire.

There are other reasons for welcoming Jean to the Club. Firstly it was her enthusiasm and hospitality that prompted the creation of the Club. Secondly, under Jean’s guidance, the College has promoted our shared Saltaire heritage, - partly through its hosting of the Saltaire Archive, but equally through its hospitality of the Salt family on their visits to Saltaire.

Roger Clarke, already well known to most, is our second speaker of the evening. Following the sad loss of Clive Woods in 2007, Roger did an excellent job in cataloguing the papers that Clive’s family kindly made available to Saltaire Archive. Clive is not forgotten, and it is entirely fitting that Roger Clarke should present a talk, drawn from Clive’s papers: “Ann Moss – 19th Century Poet”. The subject of the talk was known to, and corresponded with, Sir Titus Salt.

As usual, our meeting will be held in Shipley College, Exhibition Rd, Saltaire, 7 - 9 pm, when you will be able to also catch up on the latest history findings on Saltaire.

We very much look forward to seeing you again.

Best wishes
Dave
